Health and Safety policy
Movers Ilford Health and Safety Policy
Movers Ilford is committed to providing a safe and healthy working environment for our employees, contractors, customers and members of the public who may be affected by our removal and relocation services. This Health and Safety Policy sets out our approach to managing risks associated with household and commercial moves, packing, loading, transportation and unloading activities.
Policy Statement and Objectives
Our objective is to prevent injury, ill health, property damage and environmental harm arising from our operations. Health and safety is integral to the way we plan and deliver every move, from initial survey and preparation to completion of the job at the destination address.
We will continually work to:
Identify, assess and control risks associated with lifting, carrying, vehicle operations, use of equipment and work at height. Provide and maintain safe systems of work, safe equipment and a safe working environment. Ensure our workforce is competent through appropriate instruction, information, supervision and ongoing training. Promote a positive health and safety culture where everyone takes responsibility for their own safety and the safety of others. Comply with all applicable health and safety legislation, regulations and recognised industry best practice.
Management Responsibilities
Senior management at Movers Ilford has overall responsibility for implementing this policy and for ensuring adequate resources are available to manage health and safety effectively. Management will:
Set clear health and safety objectives and review performance regularly. Carry out and review risk assessments for all key moving activities. Ensure that safe working procedures are developed, communicated and followed. Provide suitable work equipment and ensure it is properly maintained and inspected. Arrange relevant training for staff, including manual handling and safe driving practices. Investigate accidents, incidents and near misses to prevent recurrence.
Employee Responsibilities
Every employee has a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. All staff must:
Follow the instructions, procedures and training provided by the company. Use equipment, vehicles and personal protective equipment correctly and safely. Report hazards, defects, near misses, accidents or concerns to their supervisor without delay. Co operate with managers and supervisors on all health and safety matters. Refrain from any behaviour that could endanger themselves, colleagues, customers or the public. Never work under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Movers Ilford conducts risk assessments covering all significant hazards associated with our services. Typical risks include manual handling of heavy or awkward items, trips and falls, vehicle movements in residential and commercial areas, loading and securing goods in vehicles, working in confined or cluttered spaces and handling fragile, high value or hazardous items as declared by customers.
Control measures are implemented to eliminate risks where possible or reduce them to an acceptable level. Safe systems of work are communicated to employees and, where relevant, explained to customers so that everyone understands how the job will be carried out safely.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a core part of removal activities. To minimise the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, we:
Provide training in safe lifting techniques, team lifting and use of mechanical aids. Plan moves to reduce unnecessary carrying distances and awkward routes. Use trolleys, dollies, removal straps, ramps and other aids where appropriate. Assess heavy, bulky or unusual items individually and allocate sufficient personnel and time. Instruct staff not to attempt to lift loads that are beyond their capability or which cannot be handled safely.
All equipment used in removals, including lifting aids, ramps and restraints, is inspected regularly and taken out of service immediately if found to be defective.
Vehicles and Driving Safety
Our vehicles are essential to safe and efficient removals. Movers Ilford ensures that:
Vehicles are roadworthy, regularly inspected and maintained. Loads are distributed and secured to prevent movement in transit. Drivers hold the appropriate licences, are competent and receive guidance on safe driving. Routes and schedules are planned to allow adequate time, reducing pressure and fatigue. Drivers follow all road traffic laws and drive with consideration for other road users.
Work at Customer Premises
When working at customer homes or business premises, we recognise the need to protect both people and property. Our crews will:
Carry out a dynamic on site assessment at arrival, noting stairs, access routes, parking, uneven ground and other hazards. Use floor protection, corner guards and other measures to reduce the risk of damage. Keep pathways clear of trip hazards such as packaging materials and tools. Communicate with customers about any access or safety issues identified and agree appropriate solutions.
Training, Information and Supervision
All staff receive induction training covering the companys health and safety arrangements and the specific risks associated with removal work. Ongoing training may include manual handling, safe loading, use of equipment, vehicle safety, working in different types of premises and emergency procedures.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring working practices on site, ensuring that procedures are followed and providing guidance or corrective instruction where necessary.
Accidents, Incidents and First Aid
All accidents, incidents and near misses must be reported as soon as possible to allow appropriate action to be taken. Movers Ilford keeps records of such events and reviews them to identify trends and opportunities for improvement.
Suitable first aid provisions are maintained in vehicles and at our operating base. Staff are informed of the arrangements for first aid and emergency assistance during their work.
Consultation and Continuous Improvement
Movers Ilford believes that effective health and safety management depends on open communication and continuous improvement. We encourage staff to raise suggestions for safer ways of working and to highlight potential hazards before they result in harm.
This Health and Safety Policy is reviewed regularly and updated when there are changes to our operations, to legislation or when improvements are identified through experience and feedback.
Policy Review and Approval
This policy represents the commitment of Movers Ilford to high standards of health and safety in all aspects of our removal services. It is approved by senior management and communicated to all employees. The policy will be reviewed periodically to ensure it remains suitable, sufficient and effective for the nature and scale of our activities.
